finally here! Anyone else made it?
« on: September 04, 2007, 12:24:17 PM »
So we arrived in the Uk on Aug 28th. Have a house lined up to move in on the 14th in the New Forest Hampshire. We're staying in a vacation cabin type thing until then. I feel like i've done a million things in the past week. Still fighting the good fight to find placement for my son in school. Also have NI interviews set up and will be registering with NHS tomorrow.
Immigration was a breeze. Almost too easy that I'm wondering if we did it right. We had a layover in dublin where the immigration worker simply stamped it Dublin and the date. When we arrived in London we did not pass through immigration or customs. I spoke with the information desk and immigration at the airport and they told me to call the mail immigration office in London. We phoned them and they said that the stamp I had was sufficient. I'm hoping this is correct. My entry clearance states No recourse to public funds, etc but the stamp from Dublin on a differnt page just states DUBLIN.
I am loving Hampshire and love the place we're going to be moving into. I don't like how everything takes longer in the Uk. But the supermarkets are amazing.
Have any other 07 students made it in? Would love to hear your stories!

You were misadvised, and it would be a good idea to get an immigration stamp in your passport.  Pop to the nearest port / airport, with proof of the date you entered, or send everything to Croydon, and make sure you get that stamp.

We called Croyden before leaving Heathrow and they said we need it. Should i bother calling again or just go in person?
I was a bit unsure about the whole thing as well so I called before leaving the airport.
THANKS!!!!

Just do it.  The people in Croydon don't have a clue.

I wouldn't go in person to Croydon though.

My experience at Bristol airport after a trip to Dublin was they absolutely refused to stamp my passport even when I requested it and told them why. I'd deal directly with Croydon if you can and don't waste your time travelling back to the airport.

Is there anyway to start a sticky thread in the Visa/Immigration board to alert others about this (or any other issues for those on visas that count time spent in the UK)?

We had an advisory on this very issue in June- a link to it was posted on the Visas board, I believe.

The problem with stickies is that we have limited sticky space for a lot of worthy topics that could be on there....

Yay!! :)

I know! I got my tickets and *gasp!* they're PAPER TICKETS! I haven't used those in about 12 years! It was so... nostalgic feeling! I heard Virgin has good movies and stuff though during the flight, so I'm also excited for that!
