Dealing with BT with a pre-paid mobile
« on: September 21, 2007, 02:43:45 PM »
I'm having real trouble getting a BT line put into our flat in Glasgow, with one of the major problems being that I only have a pre-paid mobile to call them with.  Their rates are exorbitant to call the equivalent of a 800 number.  Twelve minutes on hold and my minutes are munched away.  P***ES ME OFF.

How am I supposed to deal with these guys without a landline, when what I'm trying to get is a landline?  Why is their service so glacially slow?

I'm sure a lot of people have faced this issue.  Any suggestions?  We've passed the credit report stage, which inexplicably took a few days, and are on to the service stage, and supposedly they're going to call me back (with people saying my mobile is not picking up voicemail).  This after hearing it'll take 10 business days to cancel the still-running account of the previous tennant.  Are they doing this concurrently?  Who knows?

Or you can try using your mobile with a calling card? Not sure if this will work within the UK and not cheap but probably cheaper than calling direct on your mobile.

DH works as a  contractor for BT and he says all you have to do is go to any payphone (or as he calls it a call box) and dial 150. It's free.
