u.s. work on student visa?

Forgive me if this is being posted in the wrong place or has been posted before:

I'm coming over to the UK in less than a week (eek!) on a student visa. Before going back to school I did some writing work - would it be possible to continue doing freelance writing jobs for a US company while in the UK?

hmm- I know that self-employment is prohibited while on a student visa.  So I would guess no, since it makes sense to me that freelancing = self-employment.

It's a very tricky one, but the simple answer is that it is self-employment, so you can't do it.
