oh and they also have http://recipes.sparkpeople.com/home.asp

so you can put in your own recipes and figure out the values... it's something I used a lot when doing WW since I stick to fresh foods and not many canned or pre-packed foods.

Mua ha ha ha haaaa....

I've made a UK Yankees spark team.  You know you want to join... ;)

I'm dabbling with Spark this morning, but I can't find the UKY team. Is it gone?

There is a similar site that lets you add your own foods and calorie info (which means you can add in UK foods) at http://www.my-calorie-counter.com/. However, the site does charge IF you want the feature that lets you add custom foods and meals. It also keeps track of what exercises you do and how many calories you burned. I found it worked great -- while I stuck to it. I lost a few pounds in a couple of weeks. Then I had a week where I gained a little even though I had been following it, and I did the wrong thing -- I let that discourage me and stopped using the site and stopped counting calories. I need to start again, because it really is helpful to keep track of the calories -- it makes you think twice about what foods you decide to eat!

LOL! I just found that site a few minutes ago! I think I like it better than Spark - the foods listed seem less US-centric. If I wanted to customise Spark to reflect the UK foods I'm eating, it seems as if it would be way too much work. Am I wrong? I think I like Calorie Counter!  :)

Urg, I think my reply didn't post! As I said, I love Calorie Counter and it has lots of features. I think I paid $20 for six months, which was way cheaper than Brit sites offering a similar service. And you can use it for free, too, but without the option to add custom foods and meals. :)

FYI, you can add in your own custom foods to Sparkpeople, too, and it's always free!

I'm a huge fan of Sparkpeople - over the course of 9 months last year I lost 46 pounds, 6 inches off my waist, and went from a UK 18 to a 12 (US 16-8). And I'm here, nearly 9 months after reaching my goal and I'm still the same size and actually even fitter than I was then.

That site is fantastic for changing your entire lifestyle, not just going on some "diet". I haven't even logged back into the site for about 6 months, just because I know how to maintain on my own now, from all the things it taught me last year.

Oh, and here's before & after photo to motivate you guys. ;)
Summer 97 - first visited friends in London
99-00 - studied at Uni of Sussex on exchange
Feb 02 - moved to London on BUNAC
Sep 02 - WP granted (IT skills shortage list)
Sep 04 - WP renewed
Sep 06 - WP renewed again (screwed by 4-5 year ILR change)
Sep 07 - ILR!
March 09 - Citizenship!
July 09 - bone marrow transplant :(
18 Sep 10 - wedding!
Mar 12 - half marathon in Paris! 1:47:12!
Oct 12 - Amsterdam FULL marathon! 3:48:23!

You look amazing.

I am on sparks people right now, just started my weight loss journey and i have nothing but good things to say about it. It is teaching me about a healthy lifestyle, not just a diet. I lost 4lbs last week (which was my first week) Hopefully the scale will show a loss this week too.

The best thing of course is it is free, and you can add your own foods into the tracker too.
