Congrats, that's excellent news!  Although kind of annoying that you ahve to go in at all for that!!!

Uh, oh, what happens in 10 years?  :P

You have to renew the green card - it only needs the filing of the I-90 though, no other rigmarole to go through.

Congratulations to Hubby, Marlespo! :D

Is that only if the expat doesn't apply for citizenship in the meantime?

Yep. Though they would still be a permanent resident even if the green card was not renewed - the status stays as long as they meet all the conditions.

I filed an I-90 in July 2002 when my 10-year green card expired...it fell through the cracks somehow and I never got a new green card (had to keep getting "temporary" stamps in my passport every year instead, which was such a PITA.)  I finally said "sod it" and got my US citizenship in 2005 instead...having a passport was much better than a new green card!

But that's a pretty off-the-wall case, the rest of my family filed I-90s too and got their cards renewed without a problem.

Congrats to your hubby Marlespo!
Now a triple citizen!

Thanks everyone. :) Now on to citizenship!! I suppose I should find out about all that for him.

And yep, his green card is distinctly beige. And really amazingly complicated - I'm super impressed with their attempts at making it impossible to counterfeit!!
I'm done moving. Unrepatriated back to the UK, here for good!
