Thanks everyone.. It's been a bit of a whirlwind but I'm so incredibly happy.  He's wonderful and so supportive.  And he's highly keen to move to the UK.  :D  Yay!
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

Kristi, that's fabulous news!  (And I have to admit, I wondered what this meant in terms of ever seeing you on this side of the water again!)

He's American but he's a writer, published, the whole bit so he'd qualify for HSMP I think or the artist visa.  But he wants me to pursue my PhD (and I want to too!) so in the next 5 years, we'll be back.  I have no desire to live in CA forever.  I desperately miss London!

I thought you were still over here!
Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in...

No. :(  I left in Feb 06 for CA.  It's been a long, strange trip.
