Getting a marriage license in the UK
« on: October 15, 2007, 09:58:09 PM »
I just read a document on the U.S. Embassy site that says to get married in the UK or Wales requires first a 7 day residency, then you request a license on the 8th day, and then you have to wait another 15 days to get married? Is this true? I'm looking at options for a non-UK couple that would like to come here for a destination wedding in a castle.

that sounds about right for England and Wales.  Scotland has different rules.

And of course a non-UK couple would have to get marriage visit visas as well.
Now a triple citizen!

Student visa 9/06-->Int'l Grad Scheme 1/08-->FLR(M) 7/08-->ILR 6/10-->British citizenship 12/12

Here is a good general source of information:

Thanks for the info, y'all! It sounds like two non-residents who wanted to get married here would be in for more trouble than it's worth.

If they get married in Scotland they don't have to have been resident, but they need to give 15 days notice. They may be able to get someone else to do this for them.
