Consumer protection agency?
« on: October 21, 2007, 02:44:48 AM »
Is there a consumer protection agency in the uk that you can go speak to if you are having some difficulties with a business such as a bank?

My partner has been having some problems with his bank when it comes to a loan he took out.  To make a long story short he had 30 days to make changes and well lets just say the bank has not been helpful at all.  Who do you go to complain? or get advice on such matters?

If it's a problem with a bank or financial institution the relevant body is the Financial Services Ombudsman. However, I think they expect you to go through the bank's own cpmplaints process before you approach them.

There is also the Office of Fair Trading:

But Britwife is right, for banks go to the Financial Services Ombudsman.
