Mixed Spice the same as All spice?
« on: October 09, 2007, 09:49:29 PM »
Hi,

The topic says it all.  Is Mixed Spice the same as All Spice?  I have some mixed spice but the recipe for apple butter calls for all spice.  I remember all spice in the US and I think I have seen here but cannot remember.  Any thoughts I would be greatful.

They are different things.  Allspice is a berry, mixed spice is a mixture of cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice and can have things like ginger added also.

Kathleen,

Thank you for the advice.

And Olive,

I think I will just go with the mixed spice.  I have no desire to just keep buying spice that I use maybe twice a year.   ;)
