I-130 still not complete
« on: November 09, 2007, 08:08:19 AM »
Stupid US embassy sent the I130 back once saying I needed to explain my student visa, so I did that and turned it back around quickly. Then last night, I got a letter saying I had to prove that our marriage was in fact, a bona fide marriage/relationship! Talk about pissed off, I am frustrated. This process is FAR more difficult/involved than coming to the UK. I think it's b/c we have only been married for a year, so I understand it would look suspicious, but it causes a lot of rushing around and work for us. We have to get affidavits for me and 3 other people that will be willing to testify (if necessary) that we are real. Crazy stuff! We have his sister, mum and best friend running around today to get to a lawyer to get this done so we can send it all out on Monday. Good thing I have saved emails from when we met 3yrs ago!

This puts us behind at least another week, I wonder how long this Texas company will wait for us  ???

This is a requirement that has been in place since July but not widely talked about. They are asking for this information from all couples regardless of the length of the marriage. Take a look at the forum at Dive Into America, there are plenty of threads about it there.

MTA: Take a look at the revised I-130 instructions and it talks about showing proof of bona fide marriage on page 2: http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/I-130instr.pdf

yes, it talks about it but after other documents or...

it seems as if suddenly the ors are no longer ors, but something they expect you to send in with the other documents... very frustrating. :/
