Mexican Flavoured Cheese Find and Moneterey Jack

We just bought Over The Moon brand Cheese at Sainsbury's.  http://www.dairycrest.co.uk/brandsandproducts/brand_view.asp?b_ID=16

We bought Cheddar with Chilli, Peppers & Garlic and it's got just the right kick.

It's not Pepper Jack but to me it's better. I'm mixing it with Monteray Jack (Welsh and available from Sainsbury's Deli counter) to fill some nice Poblano Chilis from the South Devon Chili Farm htttp://www.southdevonchillifarm.co.uk/

To make some Chilis Renellos.

Had to add to this as have noticed that my Sainsbury's is not the only one to carry Moneteray Jack..

Tesco's now has it in their deli counter as well.  It's sold by the wedge and has a red wax rind on it.

Yeah, I recently found Monterey Jack at Tesco too.  I never would have thought to look in the deli section.

In Morrisons yesterday!  They are selling cheese slices of a product they call 1840 Monterrey Jack, made from 'an American recipe' in the EU & imported from the Netherlands.  It tastes pretty good to me & I reckon you could cube it up & use as Monterrey Jack in recipes (vs using as a slice of cheese on your sandwich).

And if it's in my crappy neighborhood (small) Morrisons, presumably it will be elsewhere!

Is it real cheese or a "cheese product"?

I just bought some Jack (regular "real" wheel cheese in the deli section) from Sainsbury's last night.  I buy it to go with the Mexicana cheese they sell, too.  I'll be making quesadillas this week...!

It's labeled as 'cheese' not 'cheese product'...and the ingredients say 'Contains milk' (nothing else).  Now that you mention it, I'm wondering if the US Monterrey Jack is real cheese or cheese product - lol!

It's the first time I've seen Monterrey Jack around here, but then we've not been to Sainsburys in quite awhile.  We might be making a trip there this weekend, so I'll have to try & remember to see if they have it too!

After I posted, I started wondering that too! But according to Mr. Internet, monterey jack is indeed real cheese. 

I saw that sliced one at our Morrisons a few months ago but it can't have been very popular because I haven't seen it again.  The Tesco here sells the M. Jack that's made in Wales so we get that sometimes, but mostly we just use cheddar.

Well, what Brits (in general) like and what we like are sometimes different things.   Examples, peanut butter, Marmite, etc...

Don't know if my demand alone will be sufficient to keep our Morrisons in Monterrey Jack, so it's good to know it's possibly available elsewhere.
