The Clapper
« on: November 12, 2007, 02:20:14 PM »
Somehow came in conversation the other day with my fiancĂ© - do you guys remember this gem from 1990s bad TV commercials?  Anyway, I've found them all over eBay (US) but nowhere in the UK.  Obviously just importing them wouldn't REALLY work due to electrical conversion issues.  Anyway, question is if there is anything similar here in the UK?  I simply thought of the Clapper because there's this lovely lamp that we never use in the house simply because switching it on is a pain.  The Clapper is quite cheap on eBay, so we were curious if there was something similarly priced available here!

Very silly question, but enquiring minds want to know!

If this doesn't work out, maybe I'll buy him a Chia Pet as consolation :-D

I do remember seeing some of these around, but they were always something of a gimmick.    I just had a quick look in some of my supply catalogs and can't find any units "ready to go" with U.K. plugs and sockets, although the actual electronic modules to operate a relay are listed.

If the problem with the lamp is just inaccessibility, there are plenty of remote-control devices available which might fit the bill:

Innnnteresting.  Remote control is okay, I just loved the novelty & sheer silliness of a Clapper!
