I'm posting this here (rather than the repatriation thread) because I think it could affect any one of us who may want to return to the US with our British partners in the next few years.

I have no idea if you can access the NYT articles without registering. I've been registered for years! As far as I'm aware, they only want you to register so they know what kind of demographic they are reaching. You don't pay. That said, I'd paste the article on here but it's too long so if you really want it, PM me your email address and I'll send it to you that way!  :)

I ended up registering in the end,,, but I don't think the article would really affect most expats from here, as they would be going thru the American Embassy in London, and in the article, it seemed to be directed more at people who were there on work related issues.  You never know tho :)

Tebs, you are probably right. My thinking though was that I have a British fiance who could get company sponsorship to work in the US. If for some reason we chose to go that route rather than a spousal visa, he'd have to be aware of this when it came time for renewals. I also wondered if this would affect getting spousal visas/renewals over there as well as work permits.  ???

Yeah,, I can see where he could possibly be affected. I have a British friend who just moved over there to marry an American she was involved with, and she was very discouraged about the waiting time for a fiance visa. In the end, I think they went a dodgy route for her to move there,, something I think is a bit unwise. But if she had to wait that long,, I would imagine she would have been a bit despairate in the end.

I was thinking about people who have been married for two years or more, who would only have to deal with the Embassy here. I could be mistaken but I think they don't have to apply later on in the States to renew a spousal visa,, but I am sure there are others here who know better than I do.

Hope you guys don't face these kind of waiting times tho :)
