It's Mrs (somebody or other's) brand (I can't remember the name but I can picture the label.  You can get them in the Kosher section in Sainsbury.  they have a sweet and and sour.  Get the sour.

Lidl has them as well.

I just bought Mrs Elli-something's at Waitrose, the dill variety, and they were the closest I've found, but they were still not very good. I think my best bet is Lidl ... they often have 'American' items, like great peanut butter, so I'll have a look.

Thanks for your suggestions!

I buy trays of the sliced ones they have at Subway. They think I'm mad but I don't care. At least with sliced ones, I can have them on sandwiches and burgers.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Let me save you the bother! Lidl has about 300 different kinds of dill pickle but they all contain sugar. So if you like your pickles sour they are probably not going to cut it.  There are a few places online that sell Mezetta, Vlasic and Heinz pickles. The Heinz are the cheapest, at a couple of quid. The last time we got some we saved the "juice" after we'd eaten them all and replaced them with some Polish sour pickles .. leave them a day or two and they taste almost like the real thing!

Next time you go, tell them they do it at other branches and they should charge you 40p for about half a cardboard tray full. 40p is what they charge for extra cheese on the subs.
