I've never seen block American cheese, however, I've seen plenty of Kraft American cheese in slices.
Insert wonderfully creative signature here …

Tamara..it's great to see you back.  :D

But ewwwww...American cheese?  :-/ Or should I say american cheese food product? (it says that on the label) ;D blech! :-X I'm the office joke because I can't stand the stuff so if it accidentally gets put on my burger (9 times out of 10 it seems it does ::)) then I sit and scrape it off while everybody laughs. They all know to order my burger without that evil stuff. :P

are u talking about VELVEETA logs?   :-X

i think if you take a very small chunk of cheddar cheese and melt it with a gallon of lard, then let it cool and solidify, you can make it at home. [smiley=laugh4.gif]

LOL!   [smiley=laugh.gif] I was just going to ask if anyone had a good substitute for Velveeta!!!  :o

We've both been dying for smoked cheese and broccoli soup and all the recipes online say use Velveeta because cheddar and other cheeses have too much oil when melted. We're going to give Edam a try instead.  :-/

Lynn most UK cheeses don't seem to make that little pool of grease as easily as they do here in the USA.  Not sure why, but they don't.  Have made cheese soup using European cheddar, guyere and even a bit of stilton (um very very strong) and assorted veggies and potatoes.  Worked well.  Still let me know how it comes out with edam.

The Edam worked really rather nicely!   [smiley=thumbsup.gif] With also a bit of cheddar thrown in for good measure (you can never have too much cheese!!  ;) )

I'm ready for another batch already!!! Will maybe throw some potatoes and yummy veg in next time too.  [smiley=thinking.gif]
