Hi,

I have a dumb question. I googled it, but came up with no answers.

What is the difference between a "personal tax return" and a "self-assement tax document". I thought they were the same thing.

But from reading what is allowed and not allowed for support, it appears to be 2 different things.

The guidance wrote that you need to submit your "personal tax return", but then it later says "self assessment tax documents are not accepted as they are not independent".

Thanks in advance.

If you complete the application form yourself, that is the self assessment document, and until it has compe back approved by HMRC it cannot be accepted as evidence of income.

Once you then get the actual demand from HMRC, which will (hopefully!) confirm your stated income, that document can be used as evidence.
