You all have probably just built up an immunity to it!!! :P :)

I think there might be some truth in that or at least in what you don't know can't hurt you. I'd think if I got sick from from some of my 'bad' food handling practices I might learn but I am also one of those rice/other foods-leaver-outers and I am still standing.

However, I am very meticulous about having separate meat and veg boards and washing hands with soap when preparing food.

I never knew about the rice thing until recently and I'm careful about that now, even though I ate leftover rice in all forms (plain, veg sushi, fried, etc.) and all kinds (brown, white, basmati, etc.) for 15 years that I took home leftover from the cafe / natural food market I used to work at.  I never got sick.

I'm positively anal about cross contamination.  My kitchen may not be spotless but my knives and boards are!  and I have hand soap in my kitchen - I just dont' understand people who don't.  My family for instance...  They now make sure they have hand soap in the kitchen when I come to visit.  The first thing i do before I start to cook, is wash my hands.

Ha ha, my sister made that change too after a comment I made on a previous visit.
