Another newbie here
« on: April 10, 2004, 12:24:57 AM »
:)Hello! I joined a few days ago but decided to lurk before posting. I'm an American but hope to be moving to the UK next fall.It will be either London or the Scottish borders depending on how things work out and I would love new friends to help me prepare.

I have a 18yr old son that will be in college in the states by then and I love reading, theater, cooking, cross stitch,  genealogy, and a million other things!

Hi interestingly enough I was just reading about the Scottish Borders in my Bon Apetite and now I am dying to go there.

Anyways it all sounds very exciting and hopefully we will be able to offer you some help in your move or just provide friendship.  Being nosey here, but will you be moving for love, work or just because?

Welcome to UK Yankee too!

Not silly at all!  Many of us thought of this place as home long before we visited, so we can understand!  ;)

Welcome to UKY!  We're glad to have you here.   ;D

Welcome!!  ;D

If I had the choice I'd head for the Scottish border but that's just me.  :D And I, too, am another who feels more at home in the UK so you'll have to find something else to set yourself apart from the rest of us in being silly department.  :P

Georgias...I know what you mean!  I'm heading to London for work & I truly know no one there.  It's somewhat frightening.  I am excited about my job and about living in London but it's a BIG step for me to move from the comfort zone of the US and easy access to family (never moved more than 5-1/2 hours away).  I just keep reminding myself to take deep breathes and remember that it will be OKAY!

Deep breaths!  I will have to remember that.  I am scared to move to the UK, but even more frightened to stay in the States.  This is such an adventure for us.  My son already lives in Sweden (married a Swedish au-pair when we lived in California.)  My daughter and I plan to travel, travel, travel.   I hope we get a chance to meet you and other yanks in the UK.  I find that Americans who are other countries are happy to talk with another American, even as they enjoy the country they are in.  You will be fine!  Stay in touch with UKY.
Joyce
