UK Citizen traveling to France

Question from a relative:  If you have a British Passport and travel to France, do they still stamp it on entry and exit, now with the EU in place, or is it less restricted (just show your passport and pass)

They dont stamp it... you just show it and walk through, basically.

Thanks for the info.  But then you don't have the country stamps to show off in your passport  ;D   Can you ask to have it stamped as a sort of souvenir of the trip?

Why not just buy a tshirt whilst there?

I was thrilled to just flash the maroon passport and pass on through.

Do people really 'show off' their passport stamps? Seems a bit naff.  :-\\\\
I don't know what the officer would say if you asked him... probably something insulting in French!  ;)

I love my passport stamps - last time I was on a long-haul flight, I went through my two passports and tried to remember each trip and what I did.  It was fun.   :)  I'm very sad on my last trip to Paris I didn't get stamped at all in or out of France.  :(

I bite my nails in worry everytime I go through security hoping they don't stamp my passport again because im almost out of pages.  Last trip to Germany I got 4 different stamps  ::)  So, I look forward to in 2 years when I get my British passport and dont have to worry about that.

You can get more pages put in your passport for free from the US embassy.  The last time I ran out of pages the immigration officer in Dublin shouted at me because he had nowhere to put his stamp.  :(  So this time I am making sure I have plenty of blank pages.

I'M like Geeta I like to look at my passports stamps as well to remember each trip I went back to the States then back to the UK. some of my family & friends don't have a passport so they like to look at my passport stamps & my Visa stamps as well.

Thanks for that. I will look into it! I suppose it doesn't help you that Dublin has just about the biggest stamp anywhere which takes up nearly a whole page!

I too am happy when I don't get passport stamps because then I can avoid the hassle of getting more pages...we travel too frequently to have my passport tied up at the Embassy.  I find it incredibly annoying that we get stamped everytime we return to Birmingham.  We've started doing camping tours which involve traveling on a coach bus and I love it because we can see 9 countries and not get a single stamp!  ;D

Although, I do NEED all the stamps because I am getting my FLR in 1 year... so I need to prove how many days I was in and out of the country... i just dont WANT the stamps... I wouldn't mind two stamps in one journey but four is just ridiculous!
