Did I overstay my welcome?
« on: April 16, 2004, 05:04:28 PM »
Hi!

The thread titled "Staying in the UK" has got me thinking.

I was on a student visa starting Sept 3, 2003. I entered the country on that date and there is a stamp on my passport.
I decided not to attend the 2nd semester of college and received 50% of my tuition back.

The colleges semester 'officially' ended towards the end of January. I did not leave the UK until 3 weeks ago.

Of course, the 'rules' are- "You will leave the UK when you finish your course." If I stayed thru it, the course would've ended in July 2006. I had a stamp in my passport until October 2006.

Was it not smart to leave in mid-March when the semester ended in late January? Or can I dance my way around it by saying I traveled thru England & Wales (which I did and can prove) until I left in March?

(I will be marrying my English boyfriend in a few years hence why I am asking this question.)

Thank you!  :-*

I personally think if you had the stamp then you are fine.  You were there legally.  You jumped through their hoops.  It's not like you stayed there illegally or for a really long time after you quit school.
