Creamed chipped beef
« on: January 22, 2008, 12:44:45 PM »
Can you get it here? I suppose I could make my own, but it would be so much easier to buy something already made.

I grew up eating the Stouffer's creamed chipped beef on toast. It's a comfort food that reminds me of my mom.

I have never seen it here.  I used to love that stuff, my mom always just made it herself.  The only places I have seen dried beef are Waitrose and Costco if you are thinking of making it.

Cool. Neither of those are anywhere near me, but I've had Waitrose deliver before.

I've been really craving it lately. (Geeky TV girl confession... I've been craving it since Rose was making some on an episode of Golden Girls.)

so do i buy dried beef and then rehydrate it?  and then mix it into a white sauce?

The dried beef isn't completely dried, and it rehydrates a bit in the cream sauce when you heat it up.

Meggles, the dried beef  is in the section when the pre-sliced, pre-packaged parma ham and salami is.  It may be call air dried beef.  Just slice it up and put into a white sauce and you have chipped beef.  If you can't find it there I will be making a trip to Costco soon and I could get you some as you live in the area so it would be no problem.
