Darren Brown The System
« on: February 02, 2008, 12:20:24 AM »
Did anyone watch this?  Anyone confused by the horse trainer people picking out the pictures?  It didn't seem to jive with the rest of the theme of the show and didn't seem to fit in well except to make Darren look smug.

I watched this, but I missed the beginning and the end so I don't know exactly what you are talking about with the horse trainer.

All I saw was the explanation of the system, which was just giving every possible combination of horses to loads of different people so that the odds were that someone would get all (or most) of the winners.

I had to turn it off just after Derren had placed all of the money that woman had borrowed on her horse. Did she win? If not, did they refund her money, or did Derren not actually place the bet?

I love skeptic/debunking type shows. I miss Penn and Teller.

Yeh, I didnt quite get that bit either.  I THINK that Darren does have a particular power of mind control because in the end he did know which horse to bet on and win that lady loads of money... so I think the horse trainer bit was just him controling their minds.  I really dont think there were any statistical things involved in the horse trainer people.. I think that was just him doing his usual Darren Brown thing.. but I could be wrong.  Your right, either I missed something or it didnt quite fit with the rest of the show... ???

I've been reading some of the boards and most people think he bet on every horse on the last race.  Yes, she did win, however, it wasn't the horse that Darren told her would win initially.  After the race he said look at your ticket and apparently it said that he bet on the other horse, in fact.  Someone on one of the boards was saying that the tickets don't actually list the horse's name but just a number referencing it so it could have been any horse.
Even betting £4,000 on every horse would be peanuts compared to the budget of the show and how much they make.  Placing a bet on every horse actually fits in with the theme that there is not actually a "system".
I'm just not sure about the bit with the horse trainers/journalists who had to pick the pictures from the room and that Darren guessed them correctly.  Did he get in hundreds of journalists and film all of them until he was able to make 4 lucky guesses?  It kinda fits in with the idea of the flipping coins and the "system" or did he use his "mind powers" to deduce it?

That makes sense.
