buckwheat.
« on: January 25, 2008, 08:47:40 PM »
Mom sent me several (???) packs of it in my latest care package but other than just boil it for kasha, I don't know what to do with it.

Any ideas?

I think the right sound is more like 'awoooo'.  Coyote pancake mix is buckwheat.. and we'd all try to howl like coyotes while we were making them.

Soba is made from buckwheat flour, too.  Too much work for me, though.

Unfortunatly, it wasn't buckwheat flour she sent me but actual buckwheat. Well if all else fails, I can always make pillows out of it. ;D

Madeira, I think I am the only person here who knows what the heck you are talking about....

(I used Coyote mix this summer when I was camping.  It's a Western Canada thing.. :D )

LOL, no I don't think so. It's a Russian thing -- many Russians prepare a sort of a porrage (sp?) out of it. However, I've never been a fan of the thing, and what is most surprising of all, neither has my mom. We hardly ever had it at home. Odd isn't it? But sent it she did and even included a tag from one of the boxes on how to prep it.

I make Kasha Varnishkes a lot, I love it. Such a great source of fiber, and with some friend onion and mushrooms. OMG, heaven on a plate. I buy them at the healthfood store, or the polish grocery store.

My mother brought me tons of stuff and used all snack food as packing last time she came...she brought me a giant glass cake plate and the box was filled with snack bags of Goldfish and Gerber Puffs for my son! Great idea.

That's strange.. we pronounce 'coyote' the American way, when talking about that mix.  Yick, I never did like it.. but it's the cheapest pancake mix you can buy!
