Moneycorp - anyone have any comments?
« on: January 10, 2008, 11:02:19 AM »
Hi there
There was a thread a few months back where a few people said that for transferring money over to the States the best option was to use XE for small amounts and Moneycorp for big amounts of money. I just signed up to Moneycorp and was wondering if anyone has used them and tell me if their experience was alright.

Cheers / thanks in advance
Mimsy

I use moneycorp every month.  I have a direct debit taken out of my account in the UK and put into my account in America.  I think they are wonderful and gave me a great locked in rate.  The money comes out of my account around the 13th of each month and goes into my US account around the 18th.  I have my rate locked in for 2 years.. which is FAB!  :) Great customer service as well. I'd reccommend them to anyone.

This info is so helpful as I'm being driven crazy transferring money every month into my US bank account to reduce my credit card bill.

I am most likely going to sign up but if any one has more feedback good or bad, please let me know about this service (Moneycorp).

Thanks!!!  :)

I was thinking about using them for US student loan payment transfers, so thanks for the info!
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer.

incidentally, i now have an account with XE adn Moneycorp. I had been under the impression that Moneycorp was better for bigger transfers because they only charge a flat fee rather than percentage commission. however i did a trade about 3 weeks ago and before going with moneycorp did a quick check on XE and they were actually cheaper. could be a fluke, but worth opening both and then just comparing on the day you are ready to trade.

In my experience.... Moneycorp gave me a higher exchange rate than XE. Although XE may not charge a fee where Moneycorp charges me £4 be transfer.. that ok because with the higher rate Im actually getting more money put into my bank account (by about £25 per month) using moneycorp... therefore.. by using moneycorp, despite the fee, im still £21 better off each month.... which is why its better in my opinion to use Moneycorp for the bigger transfers... and the longer you sign up for, the better rate they give you.. and its fixed!!  Or if its just a one off transfer, the more money you give them to transfer the better rate they give you as well.  I couldn't praise Moneycorp enough. My bank in the US even charges $7 per transfer and moneycorp refunds that fee to me.  :)

I think rates as with everything may vary... so its worth doing a bit of your own research at the time your going to sign up and see whose better for you.

Thanks to the advice on this board I used MoneyCorp to transfer a large sum of money from the UK to my US bank account.  The only "hassle" with MoneyCorp is that they do not have an online facility. You have to call the trader and get the latest rates.  However, I found the rates on MoneyCorp to be much more competitive than my bank.  For the same transfer sum, the bank was offering me $1.87 whereas MoneyCorp offered me $1.95. The spot rate was $1.969.  Furthermore, the bank was charging me £35 for the transfer and wouldn't refund the $15 incoming wire fee from my US bank.  MoneyCorp charged me £15 for the whole transaction and refunded the $15 incoming wire transfer fee.
