US banks that don't charge for no DD & non-their-bank ATM's
« on: February 12, 2008, 10:59:53 AM »
currently with BoA.

Would like to change my US bank to one that
1- doesn't charge for NO direct deposit (found a NJ localbank- wachovia that will do this)
2- doesn't charge when withdrawing from non-that-bank ATM.  do these banks exist?

online banks are fine.

My credit union (PSECU) not only doesn't charge me to withdraw from other cashpoints anywhere in the world, but if another bank's machine charges me, they'll actually refund up to $4 in charges each month back into my account. :) I really don't understand what you mean for point 1, but I'm going to guess PSECU doesn't do that, either, as they don't charge me for anything, really.

I don't know if this is common for credit unions everywhere or just mine but I utterly adore them. And they've had online banking since as far back as 1997 that I can remember, anyway.

thanks for that.

i did a bit more searching and found the following banks that may be suitable:

Firstib
US Bank
Etrade Financial
Everbank
Schwab.

I'm going with schwab b/c
1- I already have other accounts with them.
2- they refund all ATM charges (the other ones have limits to how much they'll refund in a month).

I seem to remember Commerce doing something like that. Washington Mutual might, too. I can't remember their policy on non-WaMu ATMs.

I know a few people who used Wachovia in NYC and were happy with them, but I don't have first hand experience.
Another shameless promotion for www.mclevey.com, the best place on the internet to buy art.
