I suggested hangers because when I first arrived, I had no car, didn't know the bus system in London and could not find them anywhere.  There was no £ shop that I knew where to find.  I was just sort of lost for a few weeks.

Same scenario for me, right down to the "no car"! Hangers actually became an unexpected "issue" in my particular case, like yours, hence it striking a nerve and my agreement also. Not everyone will have a hanger crisis though, it's true. :)

Ok, I understand about the hangers now.  I thought it was going to be a problem when I first got here...well, tbh, I was just visiting at the time and my then-b/f (now DH) didn't have nearly enough!  But turns out that hangers were just a short stroll down the street from me - in our local Morrisons.

This ought to be a challenge for us, on ripper13catie's behalf...hook her up with some hangers if she can't find some readily available when she gets here!  But I swear they are not expensive.  ;)  :)

I did manage to find a pound shop about 2 weeks later and I hit that place up!  The hangers sucked though and I ended up buying nice ones at IKEA.
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

Oh, you all are fantastic.
Thank you for the advice...I am staying in uni housing, so sheets and things are provided...we are (according to mapquest) about 1.5 miles away from the ASDA in ormskirk, so I will hit them up for hangers/storage things when I arrive and can asses the amount (or lack thereof) of closet space.
Speaking of ormskirk...anyone know of good charity shops around that area? I am a thrift store fiend...pretty much everything I own cost a dollar :). I'd MUCH rather spend my money on thrift store finds then designer duds any day!

I don't know Ormskirk at all, but I did a quick look on www.yell.com (Yellow Pages) for charity shops, and there are loads! You'll have plenty of choice!

Once you get there, you might want to look into car boot sales as well. You may need a car (or a lift from a friend) to get to one, but you'll find great deals there!

Being about 15 mins down the road from you I really dont think you will have a hanger crisis.

I came over for University (University of Central Lancashire) and found the University provided bedding less than adequate and went out and bought my own a few days after I arrive, but it will do til you find better so dont bring your own. I second bringing stuff to do because I had no TV for 9 months while living in student halls.  Also, despite what my home university said about not bringing a laptop over (dont know why they said that) then i stuck my laptop in my bag right as I ran out the door and THANK GOD i did. The only thing that kept me sane without TV was internet and being able to watch DVDs on the laptop.

GOOD LUCK!
