They do that with ours too.  So far, it's worked really well.

They are trying the same thing in lots of U.S. practices too, actually. Slate.com recently did a story on it.
And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend!"

funnily enough i am having this same problem - called the GP near our flat in Redhill and they said 6 months i need to be here before i can register. called another place and they said the same thing. once i realized they were wrong, i called back. again, they said the same thing. i said "i am on a hsmp visa, working full time, living full time, i am entitled to NHS care" they STILL said no! again, i said, i dont think you understand, i am PAYING TAXES for healthcare! still - they said no.
i called the other place and they said come on in and fill out a registration form.
needless to say i was more than peeved. i wont be going into the first place!

OK, I know I bang on about this, but the only way that this sort of thing will stop is if people report it. Otherwise the PCT won't have any idea that it's a problem. So I don't know where in Surrey Redhill is, but PLEASE go here: http://www.surreyhealth.nhs.uk/about-surrey-pct/patient-advice-and-liaison-service and send an email to the appropriate PALS service. Tell them that you've managed to register but you don't want this to happen to anyone else. Name the GP practice that turned you away and tell them that you know for a fact they are giving out incorrect information.

It may not seem like a priority once you've been registered, but it is SO important to turn in the people who are giving out wrong information. If the PALS team is doing what they're supposed to they report to various people, including patient's groups, about the sort of issues that crop up.

Listen to Anne!  I reported it and they fixed very quickly.  I am now all registered.

I'm so glad it all worked out!  I was wondering how things were going with this.
