Hotel Broadband
« on: March 27, 2008, 12:29:03 AM »
I'm in a posh midtown hotel that for some reason adds a daily surcharge for broadband.  Each day you sign up via your web browser and you get 24 hours.  Due to some utilities I have, I double booked a day, and that means I'll get overcharged.

So to even out the score, I started up my laptop and went to Accessibility Options.  Then I typed in "wireless" and hit enter.  Then it came back with some titles and I pressed "jump to URL".

BAM.  In.

Naturally I wouldn't do such a thing if I were not to be overcharged.  And if you are ever about to be overcharged, it seems to work.

garry, are you sure you'll get overcharged? They usually keep track of those things via the mac addresses.  I've used the internet in tons of hotels (cheap and posh) and I've never been overcharged once even when I thought I would be.
And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend!"

Don't know.

After I muddled about for a bit, I went back and signed up the legit way.  So perhaps later I can find out.

Amen to that!

I *have* been overcharged by automatic systems in hotels - both here and in the US - but a word with reception upon checkout will sort the matter out.

I find it fun in the UK- that I can sign in a lot of times for free with BT fon- its very fun!

But I agree, internet should be free in hotels!
I've never gotten food on my underpants!

And so now finally for the big moment of a lunch with Obama.  Crowds gathering already.  Expensive but hopefully worth it.  As they say, 'On vera'.
