Suggestions from those that know Bath well
« on: March 26, 2008, 06:27:16 PM »
Ok, here's the thing... we have a christening we have to go to in a couple weeks in Bath.  The only car we have is a company car which the company are going to be getting rid of April 1st.  We are planning on taking a National Express up to Bath but we need to know if anyone knows of any hotels or B&B's near the church where the christening will be happening or the near the Bath Spa Hotel. As well as what is the best way to make our way from the city centre (which is where I assume the National Express will drop us off).    The church is St. Luke's Church, Hatfield Road. Afterwards they are going to be having a get together at Bath Spa Hotel http://www.bathspa-hotel.co.uk/.
No way we are going to be paying for a night at that hotel!

We are hoping someone on here might know if there are places to stay much cheaper around either of those two areas and the easiest way to get from point A to point B.

Thanks

I always stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Bath. It's cheap, clean and convenient ... and you get breakfast in the morning. It's a bit of a walk into the center of town (10-15 mins?), but that's all flat - no hills!

I've stayed at the Holiday Inn Express as well and echo chary's sentiments. The Indian restaurant directly across the street from the Holiday Inn is very good as well!

I do like staying at H.I. Express! It's usually where I go when we go away somewhere but this time we just needed something more convienent as we have 2 different places we need to be. We will probably have to end up calling a cab after the christening to take us to the Bath Spa Hotel but if we could be near either of those places it would be fantastic. When DH called up to RSVP they were a bit shocked we wouldn't be staying at the same hotel as the family.  Sorry, we don't have the kind of money that side of the family has.

That's good to know! We always seem to eat somewhere else but, on the way back to the hotel at night, we invariably end up saying, "Why didn't we eat there?!?"

I helped organize a trip to Bath last year and it's not easy to find cheap rooms there! I'd try Tripadvisor since they have a nifty map that will show you how far a property is from the Bath Spa and church, but if the Holiday Inn is that much cheaper, it may be worth the taxi fare. Good luck deciding.

I've heard that Indian/Nepalese restaurant is the best one in Bath! As for accomodation, there are a bunch of B&Bs on Crescent Gardens (turns into Upper Bristol Road). I stayed here http://www.numberthirty.com/ when I came to visit Bath prior to moving here and it was nice enough and reasonably priced. You will definitely have to take a cab to the hotel. It's not close to the city centre. The church is also not in the city centre, but you can get a bus there. The #14 goes that direction fairly regularly. There are some B&Bs in the area of the church. You can search for ones on the Wellsway. Again, they're not really within easy walking distance of the centre, but there are a bunch of buses that go that way.

Thanks for that Bmore.  We don't really need to be in the city centre except to catch our bus back to London.  Will have a look at these!

So what is the "average" price of a B&B these days?

sounds like a good place to start!  :)

Try Last Minute as well. Sometimes you can find great deals at normally expensive places.
