Please help- Letting agents etc. continued
« on: April 28, 2004, 07:08:23 AM »
Hi All,

Continuing a thread which was started about a month ago, does anyone have any other suggestions in terms of letting agents which don't charge inordinate fees? I tried Wilkinson Estates but they don't really have anything currently in terms of where I'm looking (Maidenhead area) and what I'm looking for...and seeing as my temporary accommodation is shared by someone who is turning out to have shades of Norman Bates in his character, I'm very keen indeed to find my own flat etc....

Does anyone have any other suggestions in terms of specific letting agents in Berkshire (or good local papers to check out)? I'm looking for a rental which preferably has a garage for my car.

Thanks very much,

Sun King

Well, if you're looking for low fees, stay away from Countrywide!   :)

SunKing,

I can imagine that its probably be pretty hard to find a place without being here. I think it was mentioned in a prior message to look for ads in the grocery store or local papers from private parties but of course that only works if you are physically present. As for estate agents you may want to try a small one. Look on the web and try to find one that doesnt sound like a chain.  My husband and I (in Reading) found a very nice older gentlemen who ran his own small agency.  He was great, only charging us a small admin fee. Another great thing is that we do not have quarterly inspections like I hear some people do.

Good luck.

Regards,

Julie

Hi there,

Actually I am indeed here now- residing in temporary accommodation (in Hurley) owned by a complete freak! Yikes!

Uggh- well since you are here and living with a "Norman" type then get to every Tesco, Waitrose and Sainbury's you can find and look for their message board.

I am sure the situation is a bit unbearable but just remember that once you find your own place you can chalk it up as a experience and a funny story to tell your friends back home!  ;)

Keep us posted!

Julie
