So yesterday I was coming back into the UK from visiting a friend in Finland. As I got to the immigration guy at Heathrow I presented my passport with my HSMP visa in it. This is the conversation that ensued:
Immigration guy: "Any change in visa status?"
Me: "No."
Immigration guy: "Who is your employer?"
Me: "I'm freelance."
Immigration guy: "How long have you lived here?"
Me: "About a year."
Immigration guy: "And do you understand the offiside rule?"
Me: "No, not even a little bit."
Immigration guy: "Good. You're still American, then. Welcome back."
One of the big things I love about the UK is the ability to be funny in an official capacity.
