I'm all for Hooters.

Firstly, I like their wings.

Secondly, it does no harm to have a controlled environment for men to drool over women. The waitresses know what they're signing up for and they're not being manipulated or controlled. The job doesn't pay LOADS so they aren't doing it out of desperation as some strippers may. And if a bunch of pervy guys are in there staring at fake boobies, it means they're not out at the bar harassing every woman they come across.

Win win.
I'm thinking about getting metal legs. It's a risky operation, but it'll be worth it.

Does that mean you've changed your mind about women in the UK being over sexualised?  ;)

By the way, does anyone know if Hooters also employ male waiters? If not, how do they get around equality laws?

Nope! The difference I see in Hooters is that having big 'hooters' and prancing around in hot pants and a tank top is not glossed over as being natural and feminine. It is clearly definined to be overtly sexual without the pretense of false feminism or strength.

I think the term 'breastaurants' explains it all! ¬_¬

How is that different from Page 3? (sorry to get off the topic of chicken wings folks...)

I think you misunderstood the purpose of my thread and I'm sorry that I ended up immediately offending you with my very first post in it. I realize that I didn't explain myself well, and I doubt I'll be able to do any better now but I don't have a problem with Page 3 in itself. The whole point of that other thread was to examine the cultural differences in the UK, such as page 3, that shape the expectations of what it means to be a woman. I'm not a prude and I don't have anything against sexuality and women using it to their advantage or simply enjoying it for what it is. But from my perception of this country, sexuality appears to be equated with femininity. If your a woman, you go out on Saturday night and get your boobs out. Thats just expected. Many women don't appear to actually understand their own sexuality, they just know that their whole lives they've seen women turned into overtly sexual objects and it just turns into a normal expectation.

Anyway, this is a massive generalisation and I throw my hands up and freely admit it. I just see more of that kind of behaviour here in the UK than I ever did in the US, which is why I raised the question in Pettifog.

**Sorry for the off-topic novel!!

Really? That's an interesting perception.... DH and I always laugh our heads off at the women on cop shows, etc who do that. It seems a very small minority of classless young women who manage to be ridiculous enough to get a lot of publicity and perhaps make it appear to be common behaviour.... But maybe we live sheltered lives. Maybe I'll try it tonight... if it's expected of me.  ;)  :P

I have never seen more boobs on display that at my yearly Christmas work do. And not just young girls either. I had on a V neck wrap dress  but the girls were safely tucked away and I felt positively prim the first year compared to my colleagues.

The owner of Hooters was from my home town in South Carolina, he developed a Hooters airline too! its closed down now, I don't mind the restarant,  but I thought the airline was an icky idea!  not all the stewardesses dressed in the outfits, just a couple!  it was mainly promoted to golfers...

They do hire men - they work in the kitchens & cook, do dishes etc.
