I'm not sure. What to say as far as advice, I'm in a similar boat.
Long story short, I'm US, he's UK. I moved here just over a month ago. Yesterday we registered for our wedding. Since I'm on a Fiancee Visa I only have 6 months and would like to work asap so our legal wedding will be next month. I am planning to do a full wedding, bridesmaids, groomsmen, reception, next year and gave my family notice of over a year, even though it will only be a blessing in the end. My issue is I'm not sure how I feel about this.
Originally we were like the first one, legal one, we'll get done and not think of it as so serious and live like we're just engaged but it's not that simple. To his family it's their eldest son getting married, and it is legal, and we will be married. I wouldn't want to not count that time, kwim? It is a real wedding...I'll be a Lone Ranger as well lol. Everything seems to be going so quickly.
My family, sister and mom, are already giving me grief about coming, and it's a year away. Originally I said I'd like to do a small ceremony here, then in the US, but that'd be three weddings, and I'm not for it. Plus after thinking, I want my close family and friends here, it's my(our)day and it should be how we want it and I want my family here. I want them to see my home, the country I'm living in, and meet my other side of the family.
a few close friends said they'd come, but I'm worried about them backing out
it is expensive...
Sigh.
