up to 35,000 savings protection for non UK citizens too ?

Hi -
Just wondering, as a US citizen , whether we would be given the same "up to 35,000 pound " savings protection ,as a UK citizen?
I have only used UK based banks.

I pretty sure it applies to the bank's customers rather than anything to do with nationality
