Go digital!  You might like Radio6 Music as well.  I tend to listen to Xfm and Virgin during the day, but get really frustrated at the ads and the tiny playlists.  When Xfm started they played a much wider variety of music, but it's getting a bit annoying now.  6 music is pretty eclectic - you will get indie, new rave, pop and prog, and more!

Oh yeah, 6 Music is good too, and has some great presenters!

To get back to the original topic though, do you think there are more regional types of music in the US than there are here? eg Cajun/Zydeco from Louisiana, bluegrass from the south eastern states. I suppose in the UK we do have trad English, Scots and Irish music but it doesn't seem as popular as US regional music, nor as influential.

I think you're right - there are more regional types of music in the US. But I think that's down to the fact that the US is so much bigger and was settled by so many different nationalities of people.

Definitely. And even where you have the same genre of music (i.e. blues or jazz) you can have major regional differences - such as Chicago blues versus southern blues, etc. etc.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon
