That was an interesting article. I don't think I've ever had reader's block, although there have been periods of my life where I was too exhausted to read more than a few pages at a time without falling asleep.
What about the audio book idea? My husband often finds it difficult to find time to read but he's hooked on listening to audio books when he's traveling for work. I occasionally listen to audio books while I'm ironing and it makes the time fly. I "read" all of Bill Bryson's
Down Under that way, and was laughing out loud half the time. You can check out audio books at the library so you don't have to spend the big bucks in case you end up not liking the book.
You might like to listen (or "Listen Again") to Radio Four's
Book of the Week sometime when it sounds like it's going to be an interesting one. That's only 15 minutes a day for one week to hear a shortened version of a whole book, and it's free.
What about a book of short stories? Each story is only a small commitment and I sometimes skim through and just read the ones which catch my interest. For some reason I don't mind doing this, but can't bear to abandon a novel halfway through. You could take a book of short stories with you when you have some obnoxious wait (like 2 hours in the Gloucester Royal Hospital Fracture Clinic waiting room
) instead of a magazine or newspaper.
