Newbie here!
« on: April 27, 2004, 10:00:37 AM »
Hello,
I've just registered. I'm an American living in Scotland but married to a Welshman! I've been here in the UK for 2 years. Just found this board and wanted to introduce myself.

I am originally from Indiana, but lived all over the states. (Right before I moved to Scotland I had been living in NV.) I'm a graphic designer (IU, Ball State and Notre Dame for any other Hoosiers out there!) having a career rethink! I want to retrain if I could ever figure out what I want to be when I grow up!  :D

Just wanted to say hello!
shan

Hi and welcome to UKY from a fellow person who can't figure out what to do when she grows up!

Being ignorant is not so much a shame as being unwilling to learn. -Benjamin Franklin

I have long since come to believe that people never mean half of what they say, and that it is best to disregard their talk and judge only their actions. -D.Day

Hi Shan. I'm into graphics too, but my start was when text was limited to just two fonts on any given piece...only because the typsetters could only fit two of the families on the film! Are you a fellow Mac user by any chance?
Married to Graham, we run our own open-source computer training company in beautiful Wiltshire out of our 1814 Georgian Regency home (a former lodging house and once featured in Antiques Roadshow)

LOL 2 fonts. Yes, I am a mac-iphile. I use the PC for stuff like this (internet on the hubbies gateway) and if push comes to shove I can use a POC for artwork.

I've just finished freelancing at a wonderful agency, but sadly they are downsizing again so not real job opportunities there. I am giving retraining some serious thought. I just dont know what I want to do. I am like a 14 yr old with the guidance counselor -- too tall for a ballerina, plus I'd have to know how to dance and I just dont' think the pogo counts! I am going to do some research into alternative therapies, social work and teaching. Who knows. more and more people change careers many times throughout their lives. I just need to convince my family and my husband's that retraining would be more positive than they think.

Are you a designer as well?

shan
