What financial docs to save?
« on: June 30, 2008, 08:43:21 AM »
this is a spin off of mrsrobinson's post in visa section….

I am just back from 3.5 weeks away, and I am inundated with paperwork. Receipts, bills, statements, etc.  I’m curious what I really need to keep. What do you keep?

I’m applying for ILR in August & have all the paperwork for that sorted.  I’m applying for Naturalization in August 09 and obviously want to save anything I need for that.  I don’t own my own business.

I think I should keep:
1 year of bank statements
1 year of credit card statements
1 year of gas/electric/water/bt/sky bills
Current TV Licence
Current Council Tax Notice
Current Insurance (house, health, car)
All things related to my current house purchase
Copy of tax returns
All UK Paychecks
Last (12) months US paychecks

I think I should toss:
I keep EVERY receipt- coffee/sofa/tv/nail polish/etc.  all filed by month.  I should trash all receipts, except for large ticket items I may want to return/claim on house insurance.
Out of date TV licence, Council Tax, Insurances
All things related to the house I rented 3 years ago
US paychecks that are more than 12 months old
Bills/Statements more than 12 months old?

Yes?
If you harbour bitterness, happiness will dock elsewhere.
