Public Transportation to EWR
« on: June 28, 2008, 09:03:40 PM »
Does anyone know if there's a NJT station right in EWR or how to go about getting to the airport from the Newark station?

There is - it's called Newark Airport and is on the AirTrain line that connects the terminals.  Very very easy to use public transit to get to EWR unless you have tons of luggage. :)

Oh awesome. I take it I have to take the NE Corridor line to Newark and transfer?

(I grew up in Hightstown, NJ so I *used* to be familiar with NJT, but I know a lot has changed)

It's called the AirTran line?

Yep, NE Corridor or Coast line to Newark Airport station then switch to the AirTrain (the airport light rail system that connects the terminals to parking/hotel shuttles/rental cars/etc.).

Awesome. It just confused me since Airtran is an airline, but now I see, it's AirTraIn not Airtran.  Chalk me up to being stupid ;)

Just as a slight hijack - I flew my two older cats from Newark and the pet handling people there were fab! You could tell they really cared about the animals. Sorry for the hijack, but I know you're worried about your cat.  ;)

No, it's fine to hijack! :D

Though, I don't think I can take the cat on NJT ;)  But good to know since I'd probably fly out of EWR when I do move permanently.

super easy (as others has described).

the only tidbit- the NJ transit ticket- save it (your train conductor should know this).  you need this ticket to get onto the airtran (i think this is to stop people from being dropped off here)

safe travels!

Interesting. So only people who took the train into newark penn  can use the airtrain? What about if you want to take it to leave the airport?

you can get on from the terminals or car parks or car rental w/o a ticket.

i'm not quite sure why they did this?  to force people to drop people off at the terminals?  not sure.

weird. I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't have to save my ticket for the way home -  My friend I'll be staying with's best mate collects train ticket stubs, so I was planning on turning them over to him when I get there ;)
