Can't believe no one has mentioned Black Adder.  That's my all time favourite.

British:

no one beats Bill Bailey. Funniest. Dude. Alive.
Fawlty Towers
SOME of the Monty Pyton stuff

American:

Seinfeld (but it's shown WAY too much)
SOME old SNL skits (it's mostly sucked through the years but at certain times it was brilliant)
My Name Is Earl
The Simpsons
South Park (most of the time)

That's all I can really think of. There's SO little I find funny- especially these days. Comedy just seems to get more & more dumbed down year by year. And I'm of the age where I SHOULD love Vince Vaughan, Ben Stiller, Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, etc etc. I HATE them. And some Judd Apatow movies show a LITTLE bit of promise (The 40-Year-Old Virgin & Knocked Up) while others don't (Anchorman, Superbad). There hasn't been a truly funny comedy movie in years. I'll stick with things like The Princess Bride, This Is Spinal Tap, Heathers and John Hughes movies... :)

I forgot to mention Benidorm, which has me in stitches, and I wonder how many people appreciate the often strong comedic element in Corrie?

I should have said Arrested Development, we are watching it VERY VERY slowly to make it last, we have 4 episodes left on DVD, and we have all the curb dvd's. I met one of my best friends when I overheard her husband making a Curb Your Enthuthuiasm reference at a birthing class!  How awesome is that!!!
