Amy Winehouse has emphysema?

Can't say I'm surprised. Hope it gives her the kick up the backside she needs.

I heard that this morning. Such a shame, they said she's only 24. I can't imagine how much she must have been smoking to have emphysema so young. My grandmother had it, but later in life, and I thought she smoked a lot!

The article/interview was saying that it's because of her combination of not only smoking cigarettes but also crack & other stuff - and apparently quite a lot of it.  There was also a comment in there somewhere about more young people are presenting nowadays with beginning emphysema for the same reasons. :-\\\\

That's so sad. She's throwing her life and her talent away.

Urggh..I can't stand hearing about her anymore...She has become a waste of space and you can only help people so much...If she wants to self destruct let her do it in private.

Possibly the media coverage of her problems are not doing her any good and infact making her worse.

Drug addiction is not a pretty thing. I've personally seen close family members and friends self destruct from it. I don't think most people want to self destruct. But addiction is a powerful thing. All an addicted person can typically think about is where they are going to get their next hit of whatever they are addicted to. Rehab isn't pretty either. Seeing someone coming off of an addiction can be almost as ugly as the addiction itself.

I agree-the media needs to back off of her. It's got to be killing her family to see her like this- no need to document her and their pain.

Can her parents get a court ordered thing like Britney Spear's parents did? Do they have something like that in the UK?

I think they have tried to get some sort of court order in the past.  The extreme would be to get her involuntarily sectioned, but that takes an awful lot.

I don't know why she has taken the path she has taken, but I hope she changes things soon, or she will die.  There is always a reason for such self destruction, so I always think that people like her are worthy of pity, even if we can't understand why this has happened.

Much like with Britney, at first I was mildly amused by her antics.  But as time has worn on, it's become painful to watch her self-destruct.  I just can't look at it any more.
