Glasgow in August
« on: July 11, 2008, 11:19:51 AM »
So my fiance and I are planning a long weekend in Glasgow in August and I'm in need of advice, info, etc.

Does anyone know of any decently priced hotels?  I know it's summer so everything is hiked up but any recommendations would be great.

Also, any advice on where to eat and what to see.  We'll be there for 3 nights so not a whole lot of time, but I want to pack the weekend full.

Thanks in advance!

Check out the Glasgow Guide:

I'm a bit of a Glasgow virgin but  would recommend the Kelvingrove museum, the science centre,  house for the art lover, burrell collection.

The west end is great for pubs/cafes/restaurants, especially Ashton Lane:

There's loads of variety that should suit taste and budget, The Ubiquitous Chip is lovely for a meal, The Lane for drinks, Jinty McGinty's for live music, Brel for all of the above.

For places to stay, I'd just look at the usual suspects of TravelLodges, Premier Inns etc - The Premier Inn at Charing Cross is quoting £177 in total for a 3 night stay in Glasgow in mid-august for 2 people.  I'm pretty sure you could get a better deal though.

If you wanted cheap and cheerful try HostelWorld.com, they will have some university halls of residence available to them in August.

Also, if it's August, I'd dedicate one day to hop accross to Edinburgh.  The festival is on in August and you really should try, there's loads to do or you could indulge in my favourite activity during the festival in august - get yourself a seat outside a bar on the high street and people watch!

Ha!  I was just going to say 'whatever you do, DONT be tempted to go through to Edinburgh in August!  Every place will be so completely stowed out that you can barely move or breathe!'.  :-\\\\

Enjoy Glasgow... i think it's the best city in the UK!

I know, but I'm so biased it's hard not to give my home a plug every now and then!  ;)
