Do you have a grill? Since its the nice time of year in MA, you could make a beer can chicken on the grill- plop the chicken on the beer can, cook. I think they sell the frames too. Or my mom likes to make it with soda sometimes, you could do coke, or orange, etc.
Brisket is always yummy.
Steamers (steamahhhs, hahaha) in butter, drool. That's fancy. Of course, not sure how much a 9 year old would like that.
You definitely need to serve Massachusetts corn on the cob. There is no better corn than in Massachusetts, I swear it.
For a real Mass favourite, you could do elastic bands (those rubber neck clams that are deep fried and served in a hot dog roll with lots of tartar) Or roast beef sandwiches. That's also a MA favourite!
