Found: Canned black beans at Sainsbury's
« on: August 02, 2008, 06:17:28 PM »
Apologies if this is old news, but while grocery shopping today I noticed that my local Sainsbury's has started carrying an organic brand of canned black beans.  Check your local store, if you haven't seen them yet.   I was so happy I was dancing all over the place!!  I'm having me some corn and black bean chili later this week.   ;D
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer.

I actually noticed last time I was in the UK the lack of black beans.  This worries me, as black bean tacos are a significant part of my diet.  :)  Can you find them dried or should I bring some over with me?   ::)

You can get dried ones pretty easily from some supermarkets, healthfood shops etc. The canned ones are becoming more common too. If all else fails you can get them online from mexgrocer or Lupe Pintos.

Two of the Asian supermarkets by me sell non-organic ones for 59p a can, which is waaaay cheaper than I've seen the organic shops selling them. We just had some last night, come to think of it. :)

You can get all kinds of beans (including black beans and pinto beans) dried at Out of This World organic health food store - on Vicar Lane across from the Corn Exchange. :)

...there were reports of the store closing on its website, but it was still open in the spring (April/May time) and I think Andee just went there a month or so ago, too, and they were still open.
