Found: green tea frappuccino!
« on: August 03, 2008, 05:05:17 PM »
For all you that miss Starbucks' lovely summer bright green concoction known as the Green Tea Frappuccino, I've made a great find today!  I have no idea how long they've been doing these for, but EAT are doing a summer "coolers" range - which includes the Matcha Cooler!  Match is the Japanese word for green tea.  It's almost bang-on how I remember Starbucks' tasting (though perhaps marginally sweeter? and doesn't come with whipped cream).  At around £3 for a good-sized cup, the prices are similar to Starbucks anyway.

Really lovely for hot summer days.  I've missed the GTF from home, so was dead chuffed to find this today!

(it's probably been around for months, mind you, and I've only just noticed :P)

Cool!  I ordered matcha on ebay and have been making them occasionally.  I'd like a proper one though. (Not that my own are not, but they are not really :-\\\\)  I need to see how they do it as mine are a tad bitter, even with honey added.

Stacey: I watched the guy make it at EAT.  He measured out the ice and then poured out their stock "vanilla cream" liquid stuff (I suppose it serves as a base for their blended drinks) and then dumped a scoop full of the matcha powder in.  Blend.  Serve!  Easy-peasy, though obviously I have no idea what was in the "vanilla cream" stuff.

Ohhh, we should google Eat vanilla cream ;D :P

I'm thinking of trying it with Almond milk or maybe soy.

It's so good, isn't it!

Thank you for telling me.

Oh yeah they had these last summer, too. I got really excited when I saw the sign, but I was expecting something closer to a green tea slushie and this was really sweet and really creamy, more like a milkshake. I mean, it was alright if that's what you're into, but for someone who doesn't really do junk food, it was a bit too full-on!

Frappuccinos are generally more creamy.  At least any of the ones I've had.  It's totally what I'm into ;D

I watch a podcast called Tea Tips with Dr Tea (On iTunes) and he has something more like you described squirrellypoo.  Maybe you can make it for yourself.  I bought the Matcha, but I'm sure making a very strong pot of Regular green bagged tea would work to.

Yes, squirrellypoo, this is more like Starbucks' version of a green tea "frappuccino" rather than a proper one, I'd say.  It's definitely quite sweet and creamy, but that's how it's meant to be - more a summery milkshake than anything (like Starbucks' "blended creme" drinks).

Can't believe I never noticed these before!  My hubby and I LOVE GTFs and are always pining after them in summer :).
