Rock and Hard Place both Suck
« on: August 12, 2008, 12:05:38 AM »
Back in Jan. my DH got a great job offer in London.  He accepted it before we knew we'd have to do a 6 month quarantine for my dog.  (I was all for the move too.)
The first vet we went to assured us he had experience with dogs going to the UK.  I found out when I called his office that he was no longer doing overseas examinations because of the paperwork.  Nice that he told me.... [smiley=argue.gif]
Took Lola to another vet.  Found out Vet #1 had done everything wrong, in the wrong order.  Vet #2 has done everything correctly so far.  But now instead of us joining my husband this past July, we can't go over until mid-January 2009.
My mom has said she'd take my yorkie while we're gone (1 year minimum).  I'm too afraid to ask her if she'd take Lola too.  Is it even fair to ask  her?  Do I even want to leave Lola back here?  I'm going to pay my mom monthly to take my yorkie, plus costs, even though she didn't ask.
This is putting a strain on our marriage even though I've been able to go back to London every 6-8 weeks or so.
No one seems to be a winner in this...my husband, myself and my dogs... :\\\'(
Not better, nor worse.  Just....different.

Ugh, sorry you're going through this, especially, it seems, when you didn't have too had the 'experts' had their act together.

Not sure of your relationship with your mom, but I'd say if you think it'd be ok, go for it.  She's already watching the one dog so can't she walk them and feed them together --- i.e. no extra time constraints for her?  Is your other dog well-behaved or does it require extra care for some reason?  That may be a different issue.

Someone here may know more about bringing a dog over and some kind of way out of this.  We didn't bring a dog to the UK.

We are going through this same situation. We have 3 cats. I have no one to leave them with. My husband will be heading over to Portsmouth ,UK. on the 16th.

I will be left behind with the cats until their wait is over. Nov. or Dec. (depending on weather we spend Christmas here or there.)

I don't think we will see each other at all until then.

Hope your mom comes through for you:)
