Maestro Consumer Protection
« on: August 04, 2008, 12:42:25 PM »
Has anyone ever had any luck getting protection from Maestro on internet purchases.

Long story short - Wrapit a UK gift list service has gone into admistration.  We bought friends a £200 gift about 3 months ago and it is obviously never going to be delivered.  With a creidt card you could make a claim that the goods were never delivered and you should get the money back.

Does maestro have the same protection?

I called the bank (HSBC) and they suggested I go to the company (Wrapit) and ask for a refund.....ummmm I don't think a company in administration is going to be giving me my £200 back or even if they can legally.

Any advice???

Could be good, could be bad

I have been following this story in Guardian money for a couple of weeks.  If you have paid money and the gift is simply waiting in their warehouse ready for delivery then the girft is legally yours and you must contact the receivers of the company to get it back.

If, however, you have given the money but wrapit have not yet purchased it on your behalf, the chances are that you are stuffed I'm afraid.

There is a contact number on the bottom of this page.

That's what I had read too.  I was hoping someone would have a success story using a Maestro card in a similar situation.  Hey ho...lesson learned:  Use Credit Card when shopping on line.

Hey Karin,  I thought of you when I saw this in the Money Saving Expert email:
Wrapit Crisis.  It gives you details on how to apply to get your money back.   ;)  Hope this helps you out!
