I wouldn't worry about it tremendously. I've been to Cyprus a couple of times and had no problems. However, most of my drinking there is done at my in-laws' holiday flat, in a restaurant, or in a small mountain taverna. We're too old to frequent the "drink 'til you drop" kind of places that I would suspect are the culprits for that sort of thing.
Also, a word to the wise on the traditional Cypriot spirit: zivania. That stuff is strong - typically 45% by volume.
I don't fancy the taste, but if you do - it doesn't take much!
