Help needed with housing info
« on: September 07, 2008, 09:24:03 AM »
Hi all,  I've decided that I will be purchasing a house in the U.K.  in northend hampshire part of portsmouth, well thats what I was led to believe.  Does anyone have any idea of this area is a good area to reside in?  I'm currently still in the u.s. and have limited knowledge as where the good areas are in the u.k.   Oh if anyone could provide a website or some sort of service on how to check the deed to a piece of property in the u.k. that would be very helpful.

You could try www.upmystreet.com for info. on areas - crime rates, schools, etc.

No clue about prices of pieces of property, but primelocation and rightmove are the best websites for property searches....

It's your choice...but I'd never purchase a property in a place I didn't know.  Why not come over, rent a place for a while and actually figure out if it's worth buying in that area?  You might want to see what types of properties are available and what they are like - property is VERY different from US as is the process (I'm in the midst of it all so I have experience with this).

But if you decide to go through with it, here are a few things you can check out:
1.  rightmove.co.uk - asking prices for the area
2.  nethouseprices.co.uk - sold prices from the Land Registry
3.  if you want to look at more info about a specific house, you can go to the land registry and pay for that info (£3)
