Wonderful NHS 24 Doctor
« on: September 09, 2008, 03:26:58 AM »
So I have had a really bad cold for the last few days with some fluish symptoms.  Not I am a big brave girl and continues on as tho nothing is wrong. Taking my Beechems Flu Tablets and Taking Cough medcine.

Well for the last two days I noticed I had a bit of a wheeze and put that down to the cold I had. I just soldiered on as tho all was ok.  Bought a chesty cough syrup to clear it.

Well at 11pm on Monday night, all of a sudden I couldn't breathe.  I could barely say my name as my breath was so short.  I was turning white, shaking and feeling dizzy and panicking that I wasn't getting any oxygen.  I know this probably sounds exaggerated but I felt as tho I was "dissappearing"  weird feeling.

Now because I live in a smallish town our Casualty closes at 7.30pm and our nearest hospital is about 50 minutes away.  Also, DH does not drive and I was in no fit state to drive myself.

I rang NHS Direct and they sent a doctor to my house straight away (much quicker than a ambulance would take to my house ). He immediately put me on a nebuliser for 10 minutes.  Wow these are great things!..never had one before and my lung capacity was almost back to normal after the 10 minutes.  Apparently I had developed a respiratory infection due to my cold.  I have no respiratory problems in my family and I have never suffered myself before.  I feel for people who have asthma attacks. It was really frightening.

The doctor gave me some meds and inhalers and sat and chatted to me and my husband for a good 30 minutes and made sure I was ok and calm before he went on his way.

This is fantastic service..I was really impressed tonight.  Thank heavens for NHS 24 and thank heavens to the marvellous doctor  :)

We have had a fair share (Sonya and the boys, myself twice in 3 years) and I have to say that they are great, Sonya and 2 of the boys get Asthma and Sonya needed a neb a few times, me for other reasons and 1 was a bit of a surprise diag but well we all appriciate the call out for emergencies especially in our situation its impossible for Sonya to help me get up and the boys all in one go to troop to the hospital.

Hope your feeling better and next time don't leave it so long, I am always telling Sonya this she has to be dieing to call the doctor.

Indy
I hope we get better weather with the new year I am getting rained out.

Good luck to everyone with respective visa applications.

Thanx guys....I am all OK now.   :) I am so impressed with NHS Direct these days, they have come on in leaps and bounds compared to when they first started.  Also I have to say that before I was married and I lived on my own, they were a great service if you had no one else to call on.  :D

I agree with that 100%.  They're very reassuring and nice when you crying in pain and dizzy or can't breathe or anything!

I'm glad you're feeling better.
